Members can access the courts without charge (unless for lights
during night play) at any time the courts are not required for club
activities or prior bookings. Members can also participate in club
activities (competitions, events), exercise their vote on club
matters, represent the club in competitions, and receive recognition
from Tennis Victoria or club sponsors. Members are given a shoe tag
which is needed to gain access to a court key.
The club is appreciative of the efforts of many who have assisted
its growth over its 50 year life. In recognition of their
outstanding service, the club has declared a number of
‘Life Members’.
The club also appreciates the efforts of Sarah Parkinson (logo
design) and Nicole Gray (web design).

'Mums Staying in Tennis Program'
Early in 2007, Lara Tennis Club, in conjunction with Tennis
Victoria, offered a subsidised tennis coaching program for its young
mums. Nearly 30 women participated. The aims of the program
included:
O
further development of the skills and knowledge of the Mums' Tennis
Program participants in the sport.
O
provision of a pathway to further coaching and competition tennis,
including; mid week ladies, weekend competition, night tennis and
social competition.
O
establishment of an affordable opportunity for women to join in
community activity, to regain fitness and to meet others.
O
provision of an opportunity for women to participate in a fun
friendly and welcoming tennis environment.
O
a boost in confidence for women contemplating a return to tennis or
considering sports involvement in the future.
Arising
from this program, we have established a regular group of women who
play socially on Tuesday mornings. This activity is free to
club members and loan racquets are available. The club offers a
secure child-friendly space.

'History'
Like most clubs, Lara Tennis Club has had its “golden eras”
and its times of struggle. Its growth and increasing access by the
Lara community is a tribute to the many who have contributed much
during its first 50 years.
Particular recognition must be given to Tennis Victoria, to the City
of Greater Geelong and to the many club stalwarts including our
‘Life Members’.
